Course overview
SPRAT is the Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians. Rope access techniques are used in wind energy, telecommunications, structural inspection, geological work, ski resort operations, window washing, and public safety.
Training through The Weinel Group is available for Levels 1, 2, and 3. The listed program typically includes four days of instruction, self-study, and a separate certification evaluation. Contact us for current dates, pricing, and the appropriate course level.
Course format and equipment
Instruction usually runs 8–10 hours per day, followed by a half-day evaluation with a training partner. Classes are arranged case by case for groups of 6–8 students.
Necessary equipment is provided, except gloves. High-dexterity utility gloves are encouraged. Students must be at least 18 and bring a valid government-issued ID.
Level 1 · Rope Access Worker
The Level 1 course assumes no previous rope experience. Instruction covers equipment use and inspection, job safety awareness, knots, backup devices, ascent and descent, and rope protection.
Practical skills include passing knots, rope-to-rope transfers, deviations, short rebelays, edge transitions, simple structural anchors, raising and lowering, pick-off rescue, and horizontal aid climbing. Theoretical topics include fall factors, safety factors, minimum breaking strength, and safe working loads.
Level 2 · Rope Access Lead Technician
The listed entry requirements are Level 1 certification, at least six months at Level 1, and 500 documented hours of rope access work. Confirm current eligibility with our team before arranging training.
The course reviews Level 1 skills and introduces management and communication, job safety analysis, mechanical advantage, load-sharing and pull-through anchors, rope-system analysis, cross hauling, raising and lowering, and vertical aid climbing.
Rescue skills include rescue on the same ropes, pick-off rescue with a casualty in ascent, rope-to-rope casualty transfers, fall-arrest rescue, and remote rescue systems.
Level 3 · Rope Access Supervisor
The listed entry requirements are Level 2 certification, at least six months at Level 2, and 1,000 documented cumulative hours. Our team can confirm current certification requirements and suitability.
Training reviews Level 1 and Level 2 skills with emphasis on supervisory duties, planning, documentation, risk assessment, advanced mechanical advantage, load-sharing anchors, directional anchorage, and rope-system analysis.
Practical topics include rescue through transfers, re-anchors and deviations, raising and lowering through knots, and tensioned-line operations.
What to include in your application
Tell us which SPRAT level you are interested in and your current rope-access experience. For Level 2 or Level 3, include your current certification level and documented experience so the team can confirm eligibility and evaluation arrangements.
Planning your training
Use the application below to tell us your team size, training location, preferred dates, and the course or service you need. Include any relevant experience, current equipment, and site-specific requirements so our team can discuss a suitable program with you.
Before you book
Our team will confirm availability, pricing, prerequisites, equipment requirements, and any applicable certification or evaluation arrangements. Sending an application starts that discussion; it does not reserve a place or confirm a booking.
