  1. JEFF M

Overall, I really like this cord.

I received a 25′ sample with a recent order and, as soon as I took it out of the box, I appreciated how it felt in my hand so decided to put it through a few quick tests.

    Pros:
It has a smooth sheath, is supple and easy to knot but also holds it shape well. The hank feels solid and broken-in, unlike some other manufacturers (cough… Bluewater… cough). A fig. 8 bend didn’t bind under a lot of tension and was easy to untie. The cord didn’t twist during coiling using the TRU method, and was very easy to shake out. Prusiks tied around 11.4 mm Bluewater Assaultline (rougher sheath) and 11 mm Sterling WorkPro (smoother sheath) ropes held extremely well in both cases. No long break-in period required here.

    Cons:
Its strength rating at 3,000 lbf is lower than some other manufacturers (typically between 3,200-4,000 lbf). Not enough I would dock it a whole star, but if it were bumped up a bit would make it the perfect cord.

My standard to date has been Sterling’s 8mm but honestly, I like this cord better. I can’t comment on how the rope performs over time, but I will replace a few of my existing Prusiks with this and also use it for training/demos because of its great knotability. One small point as it may matter to some… the color I received is great — deep red with blue tracer. The red pictured in the product images is lighter in color with a black and gold tracer.

Description

Rock-N-Rescue has gone back to the drawing board to produce a new 8mm prusik cord as a companion to our line of 1/2″ ropes. Our Prusik cord strikes the perfect balance between firm and supple. We have engineered the prusik cord so that the rope has enough give to grip the rope, but not be so mushy that the knot locks up.

This results in a smooth, controlled movement over the rope and greatly limits sheath slippage or milking. 8 mm prusik cord is available in  four distinct colors and features a truly unique tracer pattern. Made in USA.
